PM Calls For Uncompromising Mission –Mode Approach To Stop Further Pollution of Ganga

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Thursday called for an uncompromising mission-mode approach to stop further pollution of the River Ganga.

Chairing the fifth meeting of Ganga River Basin Authority in New Delhi, Modi said the task of cleaning the Ganga is a challenging one, but had the potential to generate immense economical activity and bring about a positive attitudinal change in the country.

He said that it is government’s responsibility to save the Ganga for future generations. The Prime Minister said the River Ganga is associated with faith and devotion among millions of Indians and the task is to convert these positive sentiments into a feeling of responsibility.

He said it can not be possible without people’s participation. Modi also urged the states to pay special attention to development of towns and villages located on the banks of the river and to ensure sufficient awareness in these areas to stop pollution.

During the meeting, the Chief Ministers of Uttarakhand, Bihar and Jharkhand also spoke in detail on the subject and about issues related to their states. Union Ministers Arun Jaitley, Venkaiah Naidu, Nitin Gadkari, Uma Bharati, Birender Singh and Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog Arvind Panagariya were among those who were present at the meeting.
