PM Modi Arrives in Seychelles As First Leg Of 3- Nation Tour

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Seychelles Tuesday night. Seychelles President James Michel received Modi at the airport. The Prime Minister will be given ceremonial reception at State House Wednesday .

Modi will hold one on one and delegation level talks with President James Michel today.r Modi will also be given a civil reception at Mahe and Seychelles President Michel will host a lunch in his honour. The Prime Minister is accompanied with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar and other dignitaries.

Modi is scheduled to arrive in Mauritius later today on a two-day visit to the island nation where he will address address Mauritian Parliament. He will be the Chief Guest at the Independence Day celebrations in Mauritius tomorrow.

The Prime Minister will also participate in the commissioning of the Indian-built Offshore Patrol Vessel Barracuda. He will hold discussions with Mauritian Prime Minister Sir Anerood Jugnauth to further deepen India’s strategic partnership with the island nation.

Modi will pay a visit to the Ganga Talao and Apravasi Ghat, both of which are associated with the arrival of the Indian indentured labourers or the ‘Girmitiya Mazdoor’ to Mauritius. During the Prime Minister’s visit, the two countries are likely to sign a number of MoUs, including an agreement to facilitate sea and air transport.

The Prime Minister left on a five-day visit to Seychelles, Mauritius and Sri Lanka yesterday evening.

In his departure statement, the Prime Minister expressed confidence that his visits will reinvigorate India’s relations with important region of the Indian Ocean.

He said India has a strong, multifaceted and important relationship with each of them and they all occupy a very important place in India’s foreign policy. Modi said his visit to the three Indian Ocean Island countries reflects foreign policy priorities in India’s immediate and extended neighbourhood.
