PM Modi Invites People’s Views On Fundamental Duties
27 December, New Delhi
Stating that there has been little discussion over fundamental duties in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday invited people’s views on it by the Republic Day.
“There is a lot of discussion on fundamental rights and there should be. But there is very little discussion on fundamental duties. Our constitution gives importance to duties as well,” Modi said in his monthly radio address ‘Mann Ki Baat’.
Only during the time of elections in the country, it is seen over hoardings and advertisements emphasising that voting is a fundamental duty, Modi said.
Before January 26, that would mark the 125th birth anniversary of Indian Constitution’s author B.R. Ambedkar, the prime minister asked various schools and colleges across the country to hold essay writing and poetry competitions on the topic “duties”.
He also asked the general public to express its views on duties to share them on ‘mygov.in’ portal, so that he could learn what people think.
Modi also said before the Republic Day, people should take on the task of cleaning up the statues of various personalities located in various cities, towns and villages of the country.
Modi also sought ideas from the youth about the ‘National Youth Festival’ that will commence on January 12, marking the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.
Prime Minister said that on January 12, “we will celebrate the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. Since 1995, National Youth Festival has been taking place on that day”.
Stating that the festival will be held in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, and this year its theme is ‘Indian Youth on development, skill and harmony’, Modi said: “The festival will take the shape of mini-India with the youth from all over joining. Can you give me ideas for the youth festival?”
“Please share your ideas on the ‘Narendra Modi Mobile App’. I wish to know your mind through these ideas. That these ideas be reflected in the ‘National Youth Festival’ will also be suggested to the government,” the prime minister added.
