PM Modi to unveil new tax regime-GST in central hall of Parliament at midnight tonight

All preparations are in place for the launch of nationwide Goods and Services Tax tonight. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unveil the new tax regime at a function in Central Hall of Parliament at midnight tonight.

The new tax regime replaces more than a dozen state and central levies built up over seven decades, with a one national GST unifying the country’s economy and over 100 crore people into a common market.

Janata Dal United has said it will attend the midnight session of parliament on GST rollout. Bihar Commercial taxes Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav will represent the state at the GST launch function in Delhi. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said he and his party are supporting GST from the beginning. Kumar said consumer states like Bihar will be benefitted more from GST.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has made a last minute appeal to the opposition to reconsider their decision saying the landmark indirect tax reform was a result of a joint decision and they cannot run away from it now.
