PM Modi’s China Visit To begin With His Arrival At Xi Jinping’s Home Town Xi’an : MEA

Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar on Tuesday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi ‘s first visit to China after assuming office would begin with his arrival in Chinese President Xi Jinping’s home town Xi’an .
Prime Minister’s visit will begin with his arrival in Xi’an. This would be the first visit of Modi to China as a Prime Minister. Xi’an is the hometown of President Xi Jinping. Prime Minister Modi would be having his summit meeting with President Xi Jinping in Xi’an that afternoon,” said Jaishankar.
“The Prime Minister would be visiting come places of cultural interest in Xi’an. He will travel from Xi’an to Beijing on 14th late in the evening and on the 15th he would be formally welcomed in Beijing by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang. The Prime Minister would be holding talks with premier and delegations. He will also be signing a number of agreements at the conclusion of the talks,” he added.
Jaishankar further said that the Prime Minister’s stay in Beijing would witness the first meeting of the India-China state and provincial leader’s forum.
“One noteworthy feature of the Prime Minister’s stay in Beijing would be the first meeting of the India-China state and provincial leader’s forum. So we will be having chief ministers and mayors present on the occasion, both Indian and Chinese,” Jaishankar said.
“There will be some cultural events in Beijing, among them, yoga and Tai chi joint event at the Temple of Heaven. Then Prime Minister Modi will move to Shanghai, that is primarily a business stop,” he said.
“He would be having interaction with Chinese CEOs; he will also be addressing a business gathering. We expect business agreements to be signed. He will also be visiting Fudan University and inaugurating centre of Gandhian studies there,” he added.
Prime Minister Modi will visit China as part of his six-day, three nation tour. During his trip, he will be visiting Beijing, Shanghai and Xi’an, before departing for Mongolia.
During the visit, India would seek greater market access, removal of non-tariff barriers and investments in sectors such as defence.
China has already signed MoUs to set up industrial parks in India.
