Political Solution For Tamil Problems Needed For Stable , Secure Sri Lanka : PM Wickremasinghe
30 March, Jaffna
Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe says a political solution for the Tamil community is needed for a stable and secure country.
Speaking at a meeting during a two-day visit to Jaffna, Wickremasinghe promised that his government will work towards devolution of powers to the Tamil majority Northern Province to meet the aspirations of the Tamil people.
He noted that the Tamil community has shown willingness to participate in the political process and ensure reconciliation. He pointed out that his government has promised the UN Human Rights Council a credible domestic inquiry into alleged war crimes.
President Maithripala’s government, with Wickeremasinghe as Prime Minister, has taken several steps since coming to power in January, to address the problems of the Tamil community.
It has returned one thousand acres of land in the Northern Province held by the army to the owners, opened the province to free movement and appointed a civilian as Governor of the province.
