President Murmu congratulates Mirabai Chanu on winning Silver at Asian Games

New Delhi, September 23
President Droupadi Murmu has congratulated Mirabai Chanu on winning the Silver Medal in the Women’s 49 kg Weightlifting event at the Asian Games.

In a social media post, the President said that Ms Chanu’s achievement brings the country a weightlifting medal at the Asian Games after 28 years. She added that with medals at several prestigious international tournaments including the Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and World Championships, Ms Chanu’s journey stands as an inspiration to the younger generation of athletes.

The President also extended best wishes to Jay Meena on securing the Bronze Medal in Men’s Singles Soft Tennis event at the Asian Games 2026. The President said that this historic performance has earned India its first-ever medal in this discipline at the Games.

She added that this achievement will inspire young athletes to pursue the sport and aim higher. The President wished that he continues to achieve greater success and bring glory to the nation.
