Previous Huda Govt Paid Rs.5.20 Cr. To Advocate KTS Tulsi &Assistants In Maruti Suzuki Case

Haryana Finance Minister Captain Abhimanyu has said that previous government under Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda of the Congress made a payment of over Rs.5.20 crore to senior advocate K.T.S. Tulsi and his three assisting counsels to contest the case in lower Court of Gurgaon for an incident of arson and rioting at Maruti Suzuki Plant at Manesar in July 2012.

Replying to a question in Haryana Vidhan Sabha at Chandigarh yesterday, the Minister said that payments have also been made to senior advocates Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Dr. Ashwani Kumar for defending similar cases. Singhvi was also nominated to Rajya Sabha.

He said that preliminary facts show that Congress Party has empanelled their supporters to defend cases in the court.

He said that the services of senior Law Officers of Prosecution Department are normally utilized to defend various cases of different departments of Government.

However, it has been a practice with various government departments, boards and corporations to engage senior advocates with sufficient experience, or expertise, with the approval of competent authority, in important cases that are of a sensitive and complex nature.

The payment released has also raised some questions, as the record shows difference in fee payment to counsels.

The previous government had adopted arrangements, that were different away from the prevailing system, right from the Deputy Commissioner’s office, up to Chief Minister’s office during their rule in defending cases. The government is ready to investigate all the irregularities.
