Punjabi Snger Manpreet Akhtar Dies

Famous Punjabi folk singer Manpreet Akhtar passed away in a hospital at Patiala today due to brain hemorrhage. She was in her 50s.Elder sister of Punjabi singer late Dilshad Akhtar, Manpreet was a lecturer of Music in a Government school at Patiala.

The folk singer was born in Muktsar, a small district of Punjab. She learned Indian classical music from Ustad Krishan Kant Sharma and her music career was started at the age of 35 when was a mother of two children. She got a Bollywood break in movie “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai” from the famous song “Tujhe Yaad naa Meri Aaye”.

Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal has expressed profound grief over the demise of the singer.In a message, he said Manpreet Akhtar was an accomplished folk singer who achieved great success and respect in the film industry also due to her dedication and complete mastery over the art of singing.

Badal said that during her illustrious career spanning many decades she had many chartbusters to her credit for which people would cherish her memory forever. He also said she carried forward the legacy left by her brother late Dilshad Akhtar in a very dignified manner
