Rajiv Gandhi Aviation University To Commence Session From Next Year

The ambitious Rajiv Gandhi National Aviation University will commence its first academic session from the next financial year 2016-17 at Raebareli, the Lok Sabha was informed Tursday.

In a written reply, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Mahesh Sharma said, “The building construction has already started. Various formalities like setting up of a Steering Committee, creation of posts of Vice-Chancellor and Project Director have already been completed.”

On the academic curriculum, the Minister said, “The aim is to facilitate and promote aviation studies, teaching, training, research and extension work with focus on emerging areas of studies such as aviation management, aviation regulation and policy, aviation history, aviation science and engineering, aviation law, aviation safety and security, aviation medicine, search and rescue, transportation of dangerous goods, environmental studies and other related fields.”

The country’s first national aviation university would be an autonomous body under the administrative control of Ministry of Civil Aviation.

The University will come up on 26.35-acres available with Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Udaan Academy for pilots at Fursatganj in Rae Bareli. The government has envisaged an estimated cost of Rs 202 crore for the institution.
