Ramdarsh Mishra, Cyrus Mistry Among 23 Named For Sahitya Akademi Award

Twenty-three writers, including veteran Hindi author Ramdarsh Mishra, Englishnovelist Cyrus Mistry, Maithali writer Manmaohan Jha and Sanskrit poet Ramshankar Awasthi have been nominated for this year’s ‘Sahitya Akademi’ award.

The decision to give the awards was taken under the presidentship of Sahitya Akademi president Vishwanath Prasad Tiwari.This year, the awards were marred by controversies and people were waiting with rapt attention for the same.

The two works of fiction are among the four novels and six books, each of short stories and poetry, two books each of essays, criticism and plays and one of memoirs that have won, the literary body said here today.

The award for Bangla literature would be announced at a later date.Ninety-two-year-old Delhi professor Ramdarsh Misra has been awarded the Akademi award for his work “Aag ki hansi,” which is his 17th poem series.

The Hindi jury comprised Professor Mahendra Madhukar,Madhav Kaushik and Progfessor Ramji Tiwari.

Three distinguished writers from the northeastern region have made it to the list of the prestigious Sahitya Akademi awards this year, officials said on Thursday.

While Indian Police Service officer Kula Saikia was selected for his short story collection “Akashar Chobi Aru Ananya Golpo”, popular Bodo language poet Brojendra Kumar Brahma was selected for his book “Baidi Dengkhw Baidi Gab”.

Manipur-based poet Kshetri Ahingna was selected for his collected poems titled “Ahingna Yekshilliba Mang”.

Rao told that the awards would be distributed on the occasion of ”Sahityasotsav” on Fenbruary 16, at a FICCI seminar by president Dr Tiwari.

The awardees would get Rs one lakh as reward.”Sahityasotsav”

would be held from February 15-20 and the title would be ”The heritage of Gandhi, Ambedkar and Nehru”.
