Roti ATMs-New Project To Counter Starvation Deaths In Bundelkhand

The poverty ridden Bundelkhand region in Uttar Pradesh has started an innovative “Roti ATMs” to provide free food to the poor and needy.

Launched on the lines of bank ATMs providing cash to the people 24×7 on January 7, the Roti ATMs has been set up by Roti bank at 10 places in Mahoba.

Bundelkhand Samaj Convenor Tara Patkar said here today that Roti ATM has been opened to counter starvation deaths, which were common in the region. He said food is being distributed to the poor without any volunteer. “Food packets are placed in a box, where poor can take them, as per their need. On the other hand, people donate food in a big way,” he added.

Patkar said presently, food is being provided in the evening but very soon, it will be made available round-the- clock.”The Roti ATMs are also monitored by the shopkeepers,” he added. Mr Patkar appealed to people to donate for this Roti ATM by serving prepared food.
