Russian Films showcased in BRICS strike chord with Indian audience

Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation V Medinskiy said the BRICS film festival had provided a foundation for the member countries to enhance their image in the field of cinema, culture and art and particularly evinced interest, in collaboration with the Indian film fraternity. Addressing a press conference, she said, ”Through cinema, promotion of cultural ties between the people of our countries could be achieved.”
In the same press conference, Russian delegates expressed their willingness to work on co-production of movies with the Indian film industry. Maria Danilyuk, actor in ”About Love,” expressed her excitement to be a part of the BRICS film festival. ”Initially, I was not sure if Indian audience will like the movie, but after it was screened, people were delighted to watch the flick. And I feel happy to showcase the film in the BRICS film festival. When I saw the reaction of the Indian audience, I felt that the Indians are very cheerful and open about the Russian movies,” she remarked.
Sergey Mokritskiy, Director of ”The Battle for Sevastopol”, said that he is a huge fan of the Indian movies and had seen ”Sita aur Gita,” when he was 14. It’s an honour for me to be a part of the BRICS film festival and this visit is like a dream come true,” the Director added.
Elena Yakovleva, actor of ”Very Best Day” said her film was a happy movie and the idea of her director for making this movie was that the people who come to see it, should leave laughing and singing. Sofia Uritskaia, Director of 14+ elaborated that the movie is all about relationships, especially highlighting the relationship between a mother and her son.
”We have 22 songs in this film and one of the songs is composed by a band from India. The Indian audience have appreciated the movie and I am in love with India,” she remarked.
The conference concluded with all delegates expressing the need for enhanced collaboration for Russian-Indian cinema and production of movies together.
