SAG : Indian Medal Tally Continues To Surge With 79 Gold, 36 Silver & 10 Bronze

Indian Track and Field Athletes, Swimmers and Archers dominated the 12th South Asian Games Tuesday.

In Athletics, India bagged 6 Gold, 5 Silver and 3 Bronze. Mayookha Johny won the Gold in Women’s Long Jump, while Manpreeth Kaur Sr. and Manpreet Kaur Jr. were the Gold and Silver medal winners in Women’s Shot Put. Neeraj Kumar bagged the coveted yellow metal in Men’s Hammer Throw.

In Men’s High Jump, Tejaswin Shankar bagged the Silver, while Ajay Kumar took the Bronze. In Men’s 5,000 metres, India won the Gold through Man Singh, with the Silver going to Suresh Kumar. In Women’s 5,000 metres as well, India got Gold and Silver. Gold went to L Surya, while the Silver was bagged by Swaty Gadhave.

Sri Lanka won Gold in both Men’s and Women’s 100 metres. India just won Silver and Bronze in Women’s section in which Srabani Nanda finished second, while Dutee Chand ended third. In Men’s 800 metres, Ajay Kumar Saroj took the Gold, while in the Women’s section, Sipra Sarkar had to settle for a Bronze.

In Swimming, India bagged 7 Gold and 4 Silver medals. Sajan Prakash, Saurabh Sangveka, Malavika V. and PS Madhu were among the Gold medalists, who made new Games records today. In Archery, after yesterday’s clean sweep in Compound events, India bagged 5 Gold and 2 Silver in Recurve today finishing with 10 Gold and 4 Silver.

Gold medals came in all the 5 events – Mixed as well as Men’s and Women’s Individual and Team. Deepika Kumari and Tarundeep Rai, who were in three events, claimed 3 Gold apiece, while the Silver medals in the Individual events also went to India as the other finalists were Bombayla Devi and Gurucharan Besra.

India also won a Gold each in Men’s and Women’s Volleyball. Gold, Silver and Bronze medals today also came in Cycling, Weightlifting, Table Tennis and Wushu. India now have 79 Gold, 36 Silver and 10 Bronze medals in its kitty.
