Star shuttler Saina Nehwal today created history after becoming the first Indian woman to become World number one in Badminton World Federation (BWF) Rankings.

Saina, who will play her semi-final later in the evening, reached the No 1 spot after Carolina Marin of Spain lost her semi-final encounter in the Indian Open at the Siri Fort sports complex here today.

The second seeded Marlin lost to third seed Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand in the semis
