Saradha Scam : SC declines TMC’s Plea to monitor CBI probe

In a setback to West Bengal’s ruling party Trinamool Congress, Supreme Court today declined to monitor the CBI probe into the multi-crore rupee Saradha scam, saying it has not made any accusation that the agency was “negligent” in its probe. A Bench comprising justices T S Thakur and C Nagappan also rejected the allegations of West Bengal government and Trinamool Congress that CBI has been selectively leaking information about probe to the media. The court however provided some respite to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the state Law Minister when it refused to entertain a contempt plea filed against them for allegedly preventing CBI from carrying its probe.

The Trinamool Congress had moved the Supreme Court on 19th of last month, accusing CBI of working under pressure from BJP-led Central government in the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam.
Three TMC leaders including West Bengal Transport Minister Madan Mitra, TMC MP Srinjoy Bose and Kunal Ghosh were all lodged in jail in connection with the multi crore chit fund scam.

Srinjoy Bose was released, only yesterday, on conditional bail in connection with the Saradha scam. Several TMC leaders have also been questioned by the CBI in this connection in last few months.
