Sarbanand Sonowal to take oath as Assam CM on May 24

BJP leader Sarbanand Sonowal will take oath as Chief Minister of Assam on 24th of this month in Guwahati.

Talking to media this afternoon, party leader Himanta Biswa Sharma said Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party president Amit Shah, and Chief Ministers of NDA ruled states are expected to attend the swearing in ceremony. It will be followed by a public meeting at Khanapara.

Legislative party meeting of BJP will be held this Sunday in Guwahati to formally elect Sarbananda Sonowal as Chief Minister in presence of Central observers. After this, legislative meeting of BJP with its allies will take place to elect Sonowal as NDA legislative leader. BJP and its alliance partners have won an absolute majority in Assam.

It has won 60 seats on its own in the 126-member House. Its ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has won 14 seats, while Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) has bagged 12 seats. Congress has bagged 26 seats, AIUDF 13 and one seat has gone to an independent.

Meanwhile, Tarun Gogoi submitted his resignation as Chief Minsiter to Assam governor P B Acharya today. Talking to media, Congress leader Rockybul Hussain said party will play the role of constructive opposition.
