Sarbananda Sonowal elected as leader of BJP legislature party in Assam

Sarbanand Sonowal has been elected as the Assam BJP legislative party leader. The was elected to the post formally in a meeting held in Guwahati Sunday in presence of central observers Om Mathur and Thawar Chand Gehlot.

Senior BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma has proposed his name as the leader of the Legislative party.

Later, party leaderships will meet the Governor at Raj Bhawan to formally claim government formation demand.

Sonowal will take oath on Tuesday evening in Guwahati as the new Chief Minister of Assam.

Our correspondent reports the new government will be sworn in the presence of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President Amit Shah, Chief Ministers of NDA ruled states and several Union Ministers.

The BJP and its allies Asom Gana Parishad and Bodoland People’s Front scored a massive victory in the assembly elections, bagging 86 seats in the 126 member assembly.
