SC grants Centre time till Friday to explore feasibility of floor test in Uttarakhand

The Supreme Court has extended the stay on implementation of Uttarakhand High Court decision quashing President Rule in the State till further orders.

It granted time till May 6 to Centre to apprise it about the feasibility of holding floor test in Uttarakhand Assembly.

This comes after the Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi told the court that he is yet to receive instructions from the government. Supreme Court had yesterday asked centre to explore the feasibility of holding a floor test in State Assembly under its supervision.

Meanwhile, the counsel for sacked Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat submitted before the court that his client will have no objection if govt accepts Supreme Court’s suggestion.

The apex court held that hearing will commence on May 6 even if the Attorney General does not apprise it of the Centre’s stand on its suggestion.
