Sexual Harassment Case : UN Won’t Conduct Inquiry into Accusation Againste RK Pachauri

UN has made it clear that it will not conduct any inquiry into accusations of sexual harassment against RK Pachauri, who resigned as the chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, as the case is being probed by national authorities.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon’s spokesperson Stephane Dujarric told reporters that the UN chief received a letter yesterday from Pachauri informing him of his decision to step down as the Chairman of the IPCC with immediate effect.

Asked if the UN would initiate an inquiry into reports alleging Pacahuri of sexual harassment, Dujarric replied in the negative and said that they have seen the press reports of the case and he understand the case is being investigated by Indian authorities and that is where it stands.

Dujarric said Ban has thanked 74-year old Pachauri for his dedicated leadership of the IPCC over the last 13 years.
