Shushma Swaraj Discusses Bilateral Issues With Sri Laanka Presidenet Ahead of PM Modi’s Vist

India Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj Friday evening met Sri Lankan President Maitripala Sirisena and discussed whole gamut of bilateral issues.

The meeting of Ms Swaraj comes a week ahead of visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s to Sri Lanka. Foreign Secretary S Jai Shankar and other officials accompanied Ms Swaraj at the talks.

Earlier in the evening, Ms Swaraj was received at the Bandaranaike International Airport by Sri Lanka’s Deputy Foreign Minister Ajith Perera.

Ms Swaraj will hold discussions with Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera tomorrow to finalize the agenda for PM Modi. She will also meet Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to discuss all issues of bilateral importance before departing for India tomorrow evening.

India and Sri Lanka have revived the traditionally close relations since the election of President Maithripala in January. It is understood that the two leaders agreed that economic relations between the two countries should be enhanced and serious efforts should be made to address issues relating to imbalance in bilateral trade. Indian developmental assistance to Sri Lanka was also reviewed at the meeting.
