Stage set for International Yoga Day celebrations tomorrow

The 5th International Yoga Day will be celebrated tomorrow. The day is celebrated to raise awareness of the many benefits of practising yoga.

On 11 December 2014, the United Nations had proclaimed 21 June as the International Day of Yoga after recognising its universal appeal.

The main function will be held at Ranchi where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the event. Around 30 thousand people are expected to participate in the main event.

The thrust of the yoga day celebration on 21st June is on harmonious mass Yoga demonstrations, in which millions of people participate, at thousands of venues. Industry bodies like CII, FICCI, Institute of Company Secretary, as well as educational bodies like CBSE, NCERT and UGC will also organise programmes on the occasion.

In the national capital, the main event will be at Rajpath in New Delhi. This will be organized by New Delhi Municipal Council, NDMC in association with Ministry of AYUSH.

Apart from the main event, the programmes will be held at Red Fort, Nehru Park, Lodhi Garden, Talkatora Garden, Yamuna Sports Complex and in Dwarka. A yoga shivir will also be organised for the Members of Parliament at the premises of Parliament House.
