Tamil Nadu assembly election results: TVK set to emerge as single largest party with lead on 108 seats

Actor-turned-politician Vijay’s led Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) is all set to create history in Tamil Nadu assembly election, by emerging as the single largest party, leading on 108 seats out of 234 constituencies across the State. The counting of votes is under way at all 75,064 polling stations, at 62 designated counting centres across the State amid tight security. In an intense three-cornered battle in the State, trends are available from all 234 seats.
According to the Election Commission, the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) lead by Chief Minister MK Stalin is leading on 62 seats, while its rival All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) is leading at 64 seats. PMK is leading on 05 seats, Indian National Congress (INC) is ahead on 04 seats, BJP has taken a lead on 01 seat, and others at 9 seats
Among the key candidates, the sitting Chief Minister MK Stalin, contesting from Kolathur constituency, his home truf in Chennai, is trailing TVK candidate V S BABU by a margin of 7975 after 10 rounds of counting. Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin is leading with 1048 votes from Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni constituency in Chennai against his oppponent Seleam D from TVK.
TVK chief Vijay himself is maintaining a comfortable lead in both Perambur and Tiruchy East after four rounds of counting, reinforcing the party’s impressive debut in the Assembly elections. In Tiruchi East, Vijay is leading by a margin of 12173 votes over his DMK rival Inigo Irudhayaraj. In Perambur constituency TVK Chief is leading by a margin of 16452 votes over his DMK opponent RD Shekar. The BJP candidate and Union Minister of State Dr L Murgan is contesting from Avinashi Reserved constituency in Tirupur district, is currently trailing against his opponent Kamali.S of TVK by a margin of 2066 votes. Another BJP candidate and former Governer of Telangana and Puducherry , Tamilisai Soundarajan is trailing with huge margin over 15000 votes from her opponent from TVK Venkataramanan.P. The former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, who recently joined DMK, is leading by margin of 173 votes from Bodinayakanur constituency. Former AIADMK leader K.A Sengottaiyan, who switched to TVK, is leading from Gobichettipalayam Consitituency. Sowmya Anbumani, PMK leader and wife of former Union Minister Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss, is leading from Dharmapuri Consitituency. BJP leaders and Union Minister of State L. Murugan is trailing behind the TVK candidate, S. Kamali, in the Avanashi constituency after the first round of counting.
As per the poll body, DMK general secretary and senior Minister Duraimurugan was also trailing at the Katpadi Assembly segment. Similarly, other Ministers, including P. Geetha Jeevan is trailing for Thoothukudi seat, Ma. Subramanian form Saidapet , E.V. Velu from Tiruvannamalai, T.M. Anbarasan from Alandur were also trailing.
Elections to the 234-seat Assembly were held in a single phase on April 23. The total voter turnout stood at 85.1 per cent with 4.8 crore votes polled.
In 2021, the DMK alliance swept the previous Assembly elections, winning 159 seats and comfortably crossing the majority mark of 118, ending AIADMK’s decade-long rule. The DMK alone contested 188 seats and won 133, paving the way for M K Stalin to become Chief Minister. The AIADMK-led alliance won 75 seats, with the AIADMK itself winning 66 of 191 seats, while allies BJP and PMK, secured 4 and 5 seats, respectively.
