Three chikungunya deaths reported from Delhi this season

As many as three patients have succumbed to the chikungunya disease in the national capital.

All three deaths have been reported from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and the deaths were due to multi-organ failure.

According to the Chairman of Board of Directors of the SGRH, D S Rana, “Three patients have succumbed to the disease”.

He said R Pandey (65) died on September 11, while Uday Shankar (61) and Ashok Chauhan (62) succumbed to the disease yesterday.

He said these patients were admitted to the hospital in a very critical condition.
Till date, 82 patients diagnosed with Chikungunya have been admitted in the hospital.

Yesterday, the municipal corporations had released the number of patients diagnosed with Chikungunya as 1724 but had not confirmed of any deaths.

Meanwhile, Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J P Nadda has convened a meeting tomorrow to take stock of the situation.

Nadda talking to reporters said that the Centre was reviewing the situation on a day to day basis and urged the people not to panic.

Nadda said, since January, the Ministry had sent 11 advisories to the state governments to take precautionary measures in chikungunya cases and was working in co-ordination with them and was ready to provide whatever assistance needed by the State Governments.
