Two CRPF Personnel Killed In Militant Attack On Srinagar –Jammu NH

Two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel including an officer, were killed Monday when unidentified militants attacked a patrol on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway in district Anantnag in South Kashmir.

Official sources said suspected militants ambushed a CRPF Road Opening Party at Halmulla, in Anantnag , around 40 Kms from Srinagar.

Reports said militants opened heavy fire around 3 P.M. and the two critically injured personnel died on the spot. The deceased have been identified as ASI Om Singh and Constable Tilak Raj. The militants decamped with a service rifle of one of the deceased CRPF personnel.

Soon after the incident, a search operation has been launched in the area. No militant organization has so far claimed the responsibility of the attack.

Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed while strongly condemning the killing of two CRPF personnel conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved families and prayed for peace to the departed souls.

This is the second attack in two days in South Kashmir. Suspected militants had hurled a grenade towards a vehicle ferrying policemen for a court hearing in busy market of Shopian town on May 09.

However, grenade missed the target and injured 16 civilians including two minors. Today’s attack point Panzpora Crossing chosen by unidentified militants is around 300 ft from Sangam Bazar.
