Union Govt. accepts recommendation of 14th Finance Commission

Union Government has accepted the recommendations of the 14th Finance Commission which seeks to provide more power to States for their progress.

In a letter to all the Chief Ministers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that his government has decided to devolve maximum money to states and allow them the required freedom to plan the course of their development.

The Prime Minister said accepting recommendations of the Commission is another indicator of Centre’s commitment to move away from ‘One Size Fits All’ approach.

He said Centre will be left with lesser funds but government wants to strengthen hands of states in pursuing their development agenda.

Modi said, in spite of the large devolution, Centre’s support in key areas including poverty elimination, employment, education and health will continue.

Citing it as unprecedented, Modi said there has never been a 10 per cent increase in devolution of divisible pool of resources to the states.
