22 March, New Delhi

The Government Of India Sunday promised immediate action after it emerged that differently-abled athletes, who participated in a national event in Uttar Pradesh, were given unfurnished and unhygienic
accommodation and they had to sleep on floors.

Taking a strong view of the incident, Union Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal sought a report from Paralympic Committee of India as well as from his secretary.

Speaking in New Delhi, Sonowal said the Ministry is examining the matter and looking into the reasons for mismanagement of the event.

The athletes, participating in the three-day National Para-Athletics Championships at Ghaziabad that ended today, were reportedly asked to stay at messy and unkempt rooms at a building.

The championship was organised by Uttar Pradesh unit of the Paralympic Committee of India.
