Vatican Missionaries of Charity , NCM Slaam Bhagawat for his remark onMother Teresa

Vatican, Missionaries of Charity and National Commission of Minorities have slammed RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat’s controversial remarks on Mother Teresa.

A Vatican spokesman told a TV channel that Mother Teresa was a beacon of hope for the world’s poor and downtrodden and her life has been an inspiration for people across the world. Vatican’s comment came after Bhagwat during an event in Rajasthan said that conversion to Christianity was the main objective behind Mother Teresa’s services.

Missionaries of Charity also disapproved the remarks made by the RSS chief. Missionaries of Charity Spokesperson Sunita Kumar said that it is unfortunate to drag Mother Teresa’s name in religious conversion.

She said, Mother was above religion and all what Mother worked for was service of humanity and peace in society. Ms. Kumar said, there is no scope for any kind of religious conversion in Missionaries of Charity.

National Commission for Minorities yesterday adopted a resolution expressing its anguish over RSS chief’s remarks on Mother Teresa.

The commission urged all concerned to exercise utmost restraint during discussion or debate regarding personalities wholly involved in selfless social service. It said, harsh and unfounded criticism needlessly hurts the feelings of large sections of society and is, therefore, avoidable.

Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India also expressed concern over Bhagwat’s statement, which according to it was “casting aspersion on the saintly person of Mother Teresa and attributing ulterior motives to her life-long humanitarian services to the poor and the sick.

It said, it is quite unfortunate that the services of such a world renowned Nobel Prize laureate and Bharat Ratna awardee be dragged into such unwarranted controversies.
