VHP Sponsored Agitaton Turns Violent In Some Parts Of Karnataka

VHP and BJP sponsored agitation against alleged murder of VHP leader Kotappa at Madikeri on November 10turned violent today as activists indulged in pelting stones damanging State run buses at several parts of Karnataka Friday.

Bus services were suspended in Mysuru, Hassan, Dharwad, DakshinaKannada and in several places following stone pelting. Agitators shouted slogans against Siddaramaiah Government and burnt tyres on the roads.

Prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC were clamped in several districts including Hassan where violence were reported.

Police have made elaborate bandobust to maintain law and order.

Shops and business establishments remained closed at DakshinaKannada, Hassan and several private Schools declared holiday as precautionary measure.

Speaking to newsmen at Mysuru Airport, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah alleged that VHP is flaring up the issue despite government taking adequate measures and ordered probe by Regional Commissioner into the death of Mr Kotappa, action will be taken after getting the report.

Home Minister Dr G Parameshwar alleged that the agitation was aimed at disturbing peace in the State and it was done without any reason.

The agitation is also against Jnanapeeth awardee Girish Karnada’s statement to the effect that if Mysure ruler Tipu Sultan’s name had been kept instead of Kempegowda for International Airport it would have been apprioriate. However, following widespread criticism, the note writer and actor apologised for his statement saying it was his personal opinion.
