Vizag hospital gets center of excellence recognition for knee replacements .

The Rama Hospital in this city has been recognized by MAXX/MERIL Academy as a center of excellence for performing total knee replacement surgeries.

Announcing this to the media today, orthopaedic surgeon at the hospital Dr.T. Somesah said the hospital had successfully performed more than 100 total knee replacements with Asian Specific Knee, suitable for Indians.

He said the hospital has also started an initiative ‘knowledge exchange programme, and as part of this a renowned joint replacement surgeon from Lancaster, Pennsylvania USA Dr. Carl Becker visited the center. A couple of joint replacement surgeries were done under his supervision.

Dr.Becker said the burden of arthritis in India was huge and it was very essential to create awareness among the people about the scientific advances in the field of joint replacement.

Somesh said the US surgeon has taught a few advance treatments in joint replacement and at the same time he also learnt a few things about arthritis among indians during the meeting.
