Whale Washed Up On Juhu Beach

A 30-foot long whale was washed up at Juhu beach here. Forest department officials said they were examining the carcass, while experts say ”it is a Bryde’s whale.” The whale weighs around four tonnes and was spotted after 2200 hrs last night. It must have died one or two days ago. It died at sea and was washed ashore.

The body has not completely degenerated, but it hasbecome bloated. Cranes have been called in to remove the remains, they added. ”There could be many reasons – sound pollution under water, pollution from industries, plastic consumption, or even disease, since the animal has no external injuries,” Animesh Limaye, an expert from Reefwatch India said.

This is the second biggest whale to have beached along the Maharashtra coast. Last year, a blue whale was washed up at Alibaugh and died after a 10-hour struggle to push her back into the sea.
