WPI inflation rises to 3.74 pc in August

Wholesale Price Index-based Inflation rose to 3.74 per cent in August as compared to 3.55 per cent a month ago, as prices of manufactured items increased while food inflation softened.

However, the inflation for the same month last year stood at (-) 5.06 per cent. As per data released by the Commerce and Industry Ministry, the annual rate of inflation for some commodities remained high like potatoes (66.72 per cent), pulses (34.55 per cent) and fruits (13.91 per cent).

But onion prices were down at 64.19 per cent in August this year, against the like month of the previous year.

The data further showed that the annual inflation for manufactured products and fuels remained modest at 2.42 per cent and 1.62 per cent, respectively.
