WPI inflation up 1.88 pc in July

Fuelled by pick in the food prices, the inflation-based on Wholesale Price Index (WPI) rose 1.88 per cent in July, 2017 as compared to 0.90 per cent for the previous month and 0.63 per cent during the corresponding month of the previous year.

Build up inflation rate in the financial year so far was 0.62 per cent compared to a build up rate of 3.81 per cent in the corresponding period of the previous year, as per the data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

The index for ‘Food Articles’ group rose by 6.2 per cent over the last month due to higher price of fruits, vegetables, peas/chawali and ragi.

However, the index for fuel and power group declined by 1.4 per cent in July, 2017 as compared to previous month data.

The prices manufactured products group rose by 0.2 per cent in July, 2017.
