RSP Establishes 22 Common Service Centres For Sustainable Development

Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has set up 22 common service centres in different villages under Bisra, Lathikata, Kuarmunda and Nuagaon Revenue Blocks in a bid to bring sustainable development in periphery neighbourhood.
RSP has earlier set up 50 Women Resource Centres under project Kishori in the periphery villages that are now working as epicenters of change not only in empowering women but also transforming the mindset of the rural populace.
The women associated with these centres are being trained in various skills, right from food processing and mushroom cultivation to paper bag and artificial jewellery making, improved chullah making, vermi-compost and health and sanitation. Many of these women are now using these skills to set up small enterprises and add to the family income.
RSP sources said in order to broaden the base and encompass more number of people including men, to give a common forum to the villages located in close vicinity and promote exchange of ideas and skills, common service centres have been established in the area of Agriculture, Computer, Art & Craft, Mushroom Production, Food Processing and Health & Hygiene.
It is a single point model for providing facilities at a particular geographical location.
The Centres are envisioned to act as catalysts of holistic development aiming to bring about socio-economic sustenance amongst the group and members of the community.
A two-day Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) training was organised for 25 women belonging to periphery villages at Institute for Peripheral Development of Corporate Social Responsibility department. The training is aimed at developing entrepreneurial skills and qualities in the participants, empowering them with techno-managerial skills and make them confident enough to start and run an enterprise.
The experts from Society for Rural Industrialisation, the implementing partner of the project, imparted the training programme, RSP sources said.
