41ST Edition Of K-1000 Motor Rally Flagged Off

K-1000 motor rally which has attracted toprallyists in the country was flagged off today from the city.
The 41st edition of the rally would run mostly on tarmac thisyear, but with rain hitting Karnataka for nearly 10 day’s today itwill be an exciting fare.
In all 37 drivers in different sections zoomed off from thestarting point when the rally was flagged off from FairfieldMarriott Hotel here tonight.
The Rally will be dedicated to KMSC’s late Chairman and formerFMSCI President R Bharath Raj, who passed away on August 15.
Moving away from tradition, the K-1000, this time, will be atarmac rally. With wet weather prevailing, it should add a touch ofdrama though the rally is not on dirt. The recce was held in themorning and the drivers enjoyed the mix of tarmac and dirt.
All top rally drivers in the country have confirmed participationfor the event that will run from November 20-22. A total of 37entries have been received. They will compete in the IRC, IRC2000cc, IRC 1600cc and FMSCI 1600cc Cup categories.
The nameto watch out for is Mysore’s Lohitt V Urs (SrikanthGowda, Bangalore), who will be driving a Mitsubishi Evo VIIIall-wheel drive car. He is leading the championship with a total of59 points, while Mahindra Adventure driver from Kolkata AmittrajitGhosh (Ashwin Naik, Mangalore) is on 47 and will be driving aMahindra XUV500.
Reigning National champion in the IRC class, Mahindra Adventure’sDelhi driver Gaurav Gill (Musa Sherif, Mangalore), is on 45 and sois his teammate from Chandigarh Sunny Sidhu (PVS Murthy, Bangalore).
The other notable entries are AR Racing’s Arjun Rao Aroor(Mangalore)-Satish Rajagopal (Bangalore) in a Volkswagen Polo R2,JCT Rallying’s Samir Thapar (New Delhi)-Gurinder Mann (Chandigarh)in a Mitsubishi Evo X and Abhilash PG (Cochin)-Anoop Kumar(Bangalore) in a Mitsubishi Evo VIII. This is the premier class inthe IRC and the top drivers will be fighting it out for the OverallNational title.
