5th Hockey India Senior Women National Championship To Kick Start Monday At Saifai, UP

The 5th Hockey India Senior Women National Championship will kick start here tomorrow. As many as 34 teams will be participating in the championship which will be played on a league cum knockout basis at the Master Chandgi Ram Sports Stadium till May 3.

Saifai is the native village of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

According to Hockey India (HI) officials here today the Senior Women National Championship will be played in two phases Division A and B. There will be 16 teams competing in Division A and Division B will see 18 teams.

Division B of the championship will be played from 20 to 29 April 2015 and Division A will be played from 26 April to 3 May 2015.The inaugural match of Division B shall be played between Chhattisgarh Hockey and Hockey Uttarakhand in Pool A tomorrow, Monday.

Uttar Pradesh Sports Minister Ram Karan Arya will inaugurate the Championship at 100 pm . The final match of Division B will be played on April 27 .
In Division A, inaugural match will be played between Railway Sports Promotion Board and Odisha on April 26 and the final will be played on 3 April 2014.

Semi-finals and final will be live telecast on Doordarshan.

Organuding secretary and Olympian R P Singh told mediapersons today that they are committed for the successful conduct of the event as this has been an honour for Uttar Pradesh Hockey to conduct the senior women National championship in Saifai.
“It’s an effort to revive hockey in the state particularly in the rural region and our players will certainly get benefit of this event,” he added.
