Delhi IAS Officers’ Association Condemns Public Humiliation Of Officers

Delhi IAS officers’ Association Wednesday unanimously passed a resolution urging Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung , Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to create a conducive atmosphere where officers could function in a free and impartial manner.
“We view with great anguish the way IAS officers have been treated, publicly humiliated and subjected to character assassination in public, we can only condemn it,” Umesh Sehgal, Former Chief Secretary read it out to the media persons.

“We urge the Lieutenant Governor, the Chief Minister and the Home Minister to create a conducive atmosphere where officers can function in a free and impartial manner,” he added.

“Urge Delhi Government to operationalise civil services board to make recommendations on posting and transfers of IAS officers as directed by the Supreme Court,” he further added.

Earlier in the day, Delhi Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia wrote to the Lieutenant Governor asking him what provisions under the Constitution allows him to issue directions to his government.

The deputy chief minister, in a letter to Jung, has sought information on the provisions under Constitution, GNCT Act and TBR which provide the latter power to issue directions to Delhi government.

Jung had earlier reiterated his executive powers and authority over administering the affairs of the capital city vis-a-vis the authority and powers to be exercised by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal under the Constitution.

In his letter Jung had written that he has ‘constitutional power, to do transfers and postings.

“The power to appoint and to transfer, from steno to IAS officers, is with the LG,” Jung wrote in the letter.
