Jayalalithaa All Set To Be Elected As AIADMK Legislature Party Leader Friday

Ruling AIADMK legislature party meeting will be held at the party headquarters in Chennai tomorrow-Friday. Though the party did not specify the exact purpose of the meeting, it is likely to elect Ms Jayalalithaa as the legislature party leader, thus paving the way for her return as Chief Minister.

Even though there is no official confirmation regarding new government formation Party sources said that the present Chief Minister Pannerselvam will tender his resignation tomorrow after the legislature party meeting.

Official sources said that Ms. Jayalalithaa will be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Saturday. The party cadres across the state gearing up to meet their leader as Ms Jayalalihtaa will make a public appearance tomorrow after the gap of six months.

Decks were cleared for Ms Jayalalithaa’s return after the Karnataka High court acquitted her in the 19-year old disproportionate assets case (DA) recently.

Ms Jayalalithaa was forced to step down as the Chief Minister in September 2014 after a trial court convicted and sentenced her to four years in jail in the DA case, which led to her automatic disqualification as MLA and exit as CM .

Senior party leader and treasurer O. Pannerselvam assumed charge as a stop-gap CM after being hand-picked by Ms Jayalalithaa to succeed her.
