Sharad Pawar Re-elected As MCA President

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Sharad Pawar of Bal Mhadalkar panel was elected as president of Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), defeating his rival Vijay Patil of Cricket First of Shiv Sena, in a closely contested election here Wednesday.

Pawar bagged 172 votes, while Patil secured 145 votes of the 329 members of MCA.

Other eminent elected people include former Test cricket captain Dilip Vengsarkar, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) city unit president Ashish Shelar as vice-president and Unmesh Khanvilkar as joint secretary.

Pawar-led Bal Mhadalkar panel won MCA elections after Republican Party of India (A) president Ramdas Athawale extended support to it at the eleventh hour.
Athawale took the decision after a meeting with Pawar few days ago here. Thereafter, Athawale withdrew his nomination for the post of vice-president of MCA.
