Kalam’s Tri-Coloured Casket Arrives At 10, Rajaji Marg

Former President A.P.J Abdul Kalam’s casket was taken to his residence 10, Rajaji Marg in a gun carriage on Tuesday.

School students were seen lining up the streets outside the late president’s residence.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav were also seen in front of Dr. Kalam’s residence.

The mortal remains of the late President were brought here in a national flag draped coffin in an Indian Air Force (IAF) C-130 J Super Hercules Aircraft, from Guwahati.

Kalam’s last rites will be performed at his hometown Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday.

The Defence Ministry has said that the public can pay homage to the late President at his residence from 4 p.m. onwards today.

Parliament has been adjourned for two days after members offered their tribute and observed two-minutes silence as a mark of respect to the late leader.

Kalam passed away in Shillong last evening.

Kalam collapsed after a massive cardiac arrest while delivering a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management in Shillong Monday.

The government has declared a seven-day national mourning as a mark of respect for Dr. Kalam, who played a stellar role in advancing India’s nuclear programme.

Considered the most popular president, Kalam became the 11th head of the state during the NDA government headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee and occupied the post between 2002 and 2007.
