Former President Kalam’s Last Rites To Be Held At Native Place Rameswaram

The last rites of Former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam will be held in his birth place Rameswaram tomorrow, Wednesday following the request of his family members.

He was son of the soil as far as the people of Rameswaram are concerned. The unassuming scientist who became the President of India from a fishing hamlet is still an inspiration to young and old alike.

The news of the demise of former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam has spread a pall of gloom in his home town Rameswaram and amongst people especially students of Tamil Nadu.

State Governor Rosaiah, Chief Minister Jayalithaa condoled the death. Most of the shops in Tamil Nadu are closed today to mark respect to the departed leader.

Dr Kalam son of a boat owner Avul Pakir became the 11th President of India on July 18, 2002. Dr Kalam, born on October 15, 1931 had his early schooling in Schwatrtz Higher Secondary School Rameswaram. School children lit candle lamps to pay homage.

Students and faculty of the St Josephs College Tiruchirapalli where Dr Kalam did his degree in Physics remembered the great leader today in a function to mourn the departed soul.

All arrangements are being made in Rameswaram for the burial at Abil Kadil Dargah burial place in Rameswaram. tomorrow People are thronging to the house where Dr Kalam’s Brother Muthu Mohammed Meeran and his close relatives are residing.

The turning point in Dr Kalam’s life must have been his association with space scientist Vikram Sarabhai which led to many ISRO projects and indigenization of missile and space technology.

His vision of developed India and Providing Urban Amenities to Rural Areas PURA mark the pathway to progress. From missiles, to satellites, rockets, and urging the youth to dream Dr Kalam has reached heavenly abode flapping his wings of fire.
