Editors Guild Of India Urges Union Govt. To Revoke Ban On Telecast Of BBC Film on Nirbhaya Rapist

Editors Guild of India Friday appealed to the government to revoke the ban on the telecast of the BBC documentary on Nirbhaya rapist.

The Guild said in a statement that the documentary portrays the courage, sensibility and liberal outlook of a family traumatised by the brutality inflicted on their daughter. It also portrays the continuing shameful attitude towards women among the convict as well as the educated.

The Guild appealed to the Central Government to revoke the ban and enable the people to view what it termed a positive and powerful documentary.
The government had Thursday served a legal notice on BBC over broadcast of the controversial interview.

It said the BBC has violated the agreement of not using the documentary for commercial purpose. The government also asked video sharing website You Tube to remove the documentary. However, the video is still accessible to users in YouTube.
