10 March, New Delhi
The Union Government Tuesday said show cause notices have been issued to 87 Non Government Organisations (NGOs) during the last two years. Ten NGOs have been blacklisted.
Replying to a question in the Lok Sabha, Social Justice and Empowerment minister Thawaar Chand Gehlot said in the event of misappropriation of funds by an NGO, the ministry initiates action to blacklist it.
Gehlot said an online portal has been launched since April 1st, 2014 for online submission of applications for grants.
The minister informed the House that the government provides grants-in-aid to NGOs for implementing various schemes for welfare of Scheduled Castes, other backward classes, senior citizens, victims of alcoholism and persons with disabilities.
Gehlot said state government’s recommendation supported by report of inspection by district officials is insisted upon while processing and releasing subsequent grants to an NGO.
