Islamabad HC Orders Release Of Mumbai Attack Mastermind Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi

13 March, Islamabad

Islamabad High Court Friday ordered the release of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack mastermind Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, declaring his detention illegal.

Pakistani newspaper Express News reported that the notifications issued by Islamabad’s District Administration were termed as null and void by Justice Noorul Haq earlier today.

Lakhvi is accused of being involved in planning, financing and executing the Mumbai attacks in 2008.

The Islamabad deputy commissioner had issued Lakhvi’s detention orders under the Maintenance of Public Order on the 18th of December last year, immediately after he was granted post-arrest bail by an anti-terrorism court. Since then, the detention orders have been extended thrice. Currently, Lakhvi is under detention in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.
