Record Increase In Rhino Population In Kaziranga National Park

The World Heritage Site, Kaziranga National park has recorded 2 thousand 401 rhinos in recent census conducted by the forest department.

Divisional Forest Officer of the park said that there is a net increase of 72 rhinos in comparison to 2013 census. In 2013, the park has recorded 2329 rhinos.

Wildlife experts have enumerated 205 calves up to one year of age which means no biological threat to the precious animal.

As per the census, 663 male and 802 female adult rhinos have been found in Kaziranga. On the other hand, 251 juvenile rhinos between 1 to 3 years were also found in the park.

Assam has set the target of increasing its rhino population to 3 thousand by 2020 under Indian Rhino Vision. Park authority has termed this growth as a positive sign towards rhino conservation.
