Aadhaar Card Linked Admission In Schools In Haryana

Aadhaar card has been made mandatory for admission to government schools and availing of benefits under various government scholarship schemes in Haryana.

A circular issued by the secondary education department states to this effect. The directive comes at a time when the admission process, which started on April 1, is already under way.

The District Education Officers and District Elementary Education Officers have also directed the heads of the educational institutions to enroll students with Aadhaar card.

Sources in government said that students seeking admission without the card would be given provisional admission and special camps would be organised in schools to get their Aadhaar cards made later.

The decision is part of state government’s efforts to link the card with bank accounts so that the scholarship amount is directly transferred to students’ bank accounts.

More than 20 lakh students belonging to the SC, Backward Class and BPL families are paid scholarship amounts varying between 75 rupees to 600 per month by the government.
