ABVP Clean Sweep In DUSU Polls; CYSS Draws Blank
Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) today made a clean sweep in Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) polls by winning all four seats, second year in a row.
Congress affiliated National Student’s Union of India (NSUI) came second in the polls.
The new entrant Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS), the student wing of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which left no stone unturned to gain a foothold in Delhi University Students Union, drew a blank.
ABVP supporters were seen celebrating outside the counting centre in DU’s North Campus. There were celebrations outside BJP office also.
Chief Election Officer for DUSU elections, D S Rawat told UNI that the ABVP won all the four seats of office-bearers. Satinder Awana, Sunny Dedha, Anjali Rana and Chhattarpal Yadav won the posts of president, vice-president, secretary and joint secretary respectively.
ABVP won the post of president by a margin of 6,327 votes at 20,439 votes and NSUI got 14,112 votes.
ABVP won the post of vice-president by a margin of 7,570 votes. On the post of VP, the CYSS stood second at 12,101 votes.
ABVP won the post of Secretary by a margin of 4,610 votes at 14,944 votes while NSUI got 10,334 votes.
ABVP won the post of Joint Secretary by a margin of 6,065 votes while NSUI got 10,178 votes.
The polling held yesterday witnessed a 43.3 per cent turnout while last year it was 44 per cent. As many as 1,35,298 students voted in the polls held in two phases, morning and evening, commencing from 0830 hrs.
Rawat said voting was held peacefully. ”No technical problems in the EVMs were reported during the polling. The overall percentage of voting was declared last night,” he added. Police said no incident of violence was reported. Security forces were deployed in large numbers in all the polling centres to avoid any untoward incident.
Women’s safety, Room Rent Control Act, review on Choice Based Credit System(CBCS), free Wi-FI, full year DTC bus pass, safety of NE students and permanent appointment of teachers were some of the issues that were highlighted in the campaign.
