Joining the list of writers, filmmakers, thinkers and academics’ protest against the growing intolerance, Booker Prize winner Arundhati Roy today returned her National Award.

Arundhati Roy had won the National Film Award for best screenplay in 1989 for ”In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones”. The film captured the anguish prevailing among the students in professional institutions.

Ms Roy had also won the Booker Prize in 1997 for her novel ‘The God of Small Things’. The renowned writer has always been an open protester and voice of dissent on several affairs.

She had also turned down the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2005. Her recent outburst has come in wake of Dadri case, murder of M M Kaliburgi and hate-remark against Shah Rukh Khan.
