Ashok Dinda’s 7/19 Earns Bengal Emphatic 133-Run Victory Vs Odisha

Ashok Dinda’s devastating spell of 7/19 flattened Odisha’s second innings batting in one of the poorest scores of 37 runs all out in Ranji cricket that helped host Bengal to win by 133 runs on the second day of the 4-day in Group A match at Kalyani stadium in West Bengal’s Nadia district Tuesday.

Bengal eyeing for a knock-out stage in the group, collected six points outright by winning inside two days and have now total 25 points with one match remaining to play against Assam in Guwahati next week.

Winning the toss, Bengal made 142 runs in the first innings and 135 in second knock, and Odisha’s 107 and 37 respectively on a pitch that helped both spinners and pacers.

Bengal resuming the day with 23 for no loss added 112 in overall 55.2 overs with opener Abhimanyu Easwaran scoring again highest 39, Sudip Chatterjee 37 and captain Manoj Tiwari 35.

Aamir Gani (4) and Sayan Mondal (3) were other scorers for Bengal and rest batsmen went in duck as Odisha pacer Basant Mohanty took five wickets for 16 runs.

Odisha, also looking for first three slots to make a move for knock out stage, needed 170 runs to win, but collapsed in one of the lowest scores of 37 all out, thanks to devastating spell from right-arm pacer Dinda. He was aptly helped by spinner Pragyan Ojha, who took three wickets for 14 runs.

In two days, about 180 overs were supposed to be played, but altogether 151.1 overs played inside one-and-half day with 40 wickets tumbled.

Bengal opener Abhimanyu Eswaran was adjudged player of the match for ‘ his 88 and 39 runs in two innings, the highest scorer for both sides.
