Bihar government gives sanction to Metro Rail Project

Bihar government Tuesday gave green signal for the ambitious Patna Metro Rail Project, which would fulfill the dream of the people of metro train, like that of other metropolitan cities of the country.

Principal secretary of cabinet coordination department Brajesh Mehrotra told media persons here that a decision to this effect was taken by state cabinet in its meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

With an investment of estimated Rs 16,960 crore, the project is scheduled to be completed by the year 2021. Bihar government will seek fund from the centre and other institutions to arrange the fund for huge expenses to be incurred against execution of the dream project.

A trace of uncertainty was hovering around over the project when Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had recently said he would not allow the possible destruction of historical remains of Patna during excavation for the metro rail project.

But, Mr Kumar during inauguration of exhibition road overbridge in Patna on Sunday, made it clear that he was not opposed to the Metro rail project. He was only concerned to protect the remains of historical importance which could be damaged during excavation, the Chief Minister had noted.

Mr Kumar said a false impression was being created by the opposition over his statement on metro rail project but it would go ahead as per the schedule.

The sanction given by Bihar government for the project assumes significance, as it laid all uncertainties regarding the ambitious metro project and it is now all set to take off.
